rest of the story." Here's what happens when Sisko brings an ogre home for Christmas.

Hope everyone had a great celebration, and will have a happy new year.

Ken Pick says: "Down to Cathuria" (an episode of Adventures of Jill Noir set between "Mask of the Ferret" and "Dyads") just came out in the small-press anthology Different Worlds, Different Skins by Anthropomorphic Dreams:
http://www.anthrodreams.com/wordpress/2009/12/20/different-worlds-different-skins/
Also note that this is a FURRY anthology, Not a CHRISTIAN one. Some of the stories have PG-13 erotica.

Scott M. Sandridge says: I'll have stories in some anthologies both currently out and upcoming.

CHIMERAWORLD #6 (NEW WORLD DISORDER)
http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/chimeraworld-%236/7762716
"In the near future, the world awakens to the corporate threat of the New World Order: a leaderless resistance defeats the global elite. Stories from Alex Severin, Tina Starr, Paul Pinn, Andrew Hook, Danny O'Connor, James A. Stewart, Arley Sorg, Robert Guffey, Sheri Fresonke Harper, Justin Oldham, Thomas Henry Dylan, Mitchell Warren, C. C. Parker, Jeff Drake, Tim Lieder, Aaron Polson, Scott M. Sandridge, John Walters, Peter Diseth, Kevin James Miller, Richard Marsden, J.W. Ocker and You The People."

My story, "Transhuman," is in the antho. After the defeat of the New World Order, a small community within the Free States must face a new threat from the D.C. Hive Mind–a verichipped "transhuman" supersoldier.

A word or three of warning: some stories in the above antho are not suitable for young readers (unless they're already as mentally warped as me, of course).

Also, "A Nighttime Business Arrangement" will be reprinted in DREAMS & SCREAMS, a corroborative anthology courtesy of: House of Horror, Silver Blade, Static Movement, Lame Goat Press, Aurora Wolf, and Liquid Imagination.
The story is set in my PANKEA world. Yavar is sent to "negotiate" a deal with a troublesome noble. (Publication TBA)

And last but not least, "The God-King," a story set in ancient Sumeria, in my CHRONICLES OF CAIN & LILITH world (which I'm still in the process of developing), will appear in the upcoming anthology (with illustrations!) THE FOUR HORSEMEN: AN ANTHOLOGY OF CONQUEST, WAR, FAMINE, AND DEATH. (publication TBA)

Enjoy! (As soon as they're out, in the case of two of them).

News for October 23rd, 2009: ResAliens

Lyn Perry on the new edition of Residential Aliens:

It’s that time of month again! Hmm, that doesn’t sound right. But it does mean that 5 new stories have magicamally appeared here at ResAliens – 4 by new-to-this-zine “freshman” authors and 1 returning “zine-ior” (get it?), Fred Warren. Let’s start with his SF piece, a thrilling, and up-lifting, space adventure. But then hold on, the stories following Fred’s get increasingly dark and disturbing, concluding with a subversive bit of fiction by Jeff Parish.

Ready? Okay!

Headlining this month’s issue is Fred Warren’s excellent science fiction novelet, “Of All Things, Seen and Unseen,” based on the Rescue Sisters Universe created by Robert and Karina Fabian and featured in their anthologies, Infinite Space, Infinite God and Leaps of Faith. The stories in the anthologies are about a future order of Catholic nuns who provide search and rescue services to space workers and travelers throughout our solar system’s asteroid belt. “Of All Things” is a very imaginative and superbly written piece of speculative fiction that I commend to you.

Next up is “The Bee Stone,” a seemingly innocent little magical story by Jasmine Giacomo. This fantasy – told in the fairy-tale tradition – is more than a morality tale, so be careful.

Meghan McVey’s mystical Dune-esque science fiction novelet follows. “The Bottled City” is a stand-alone tale but feels like the first episode in an epic cycle of far-future Saharan stories. Maybe it will be.

One of the darker pieces ResAliens has published is Kristen Lee Knapp’s science fiction, “The Assassin, The Star, and The Steel-Faced Man.” This PG-13′ish tale is filled with intrigue, sexual tension, and betrayal. If you like gritty space thrillers, this is for you.

Finally, that subversive bit of fiction I was telling you about. Jeff Parish fuses fantasy, SF, and horror into a disturbingly humorous piece, “Where the Sun Don’t Shine.” Yes, that’s the title. It is an experiment in stretching the boundaries for ResAliens and isn’t particularly “spiritually themed” (as per my guidelines) but is intriguing, and speaks to the human experience of death in light of eternal truths. In other words, it had me thinking about the story long after I finished reading it.

Thanks for reading and thinking with me.
Your Fellow Alien, Lyn

News on September 25th, 2009

Lyndon Perry says:

Now broadcasting in high definition storytelling.

I’m excited to pack this issue with 5 solid-length short stories! Nothing against flash (I published three short fictions in August) but I thought we’d get into some real plot development this month. Plus, I’m featuring 4 new-to-these-pages authors, and bringing back veteran Stoney Setzer to round out 3.3. Here’s what you can expect…

The first story, “Doctor Glesan” by Margaret Karmazin & Amalia Weinberg, is an alien abduction story which you should read while listening to The Killers as they sing Spaceman. Next up is Michael W. Garza’s speculative science fiction “Return to Sender.” The story illo is a big hint…you’ll like the ending too. I enjoy fantasy humor so Samuel Choy’s “Emperor Fred” is, I think you’ll agree, a fun diversion. Next, AJ Cooper (from here at SFReader!) offers a darker fantasy, “Angrok the Avenger” – a fast paced sword and sorcery tale. And the last story, “The Pride of Guillermo” by Stoney M. Setzer, is a bit of a conspiracy thriller with a lesson or two thrown in.

So there’s something for everyone. I hope you like the variety. Feel free to leave comments for the authors at the bottom of their stories. We’ll chat with you next month. Your fellow alien, Lyn

News for September 7th, 2009

Tony Lavoie says: I have a short story up this month at Digital Dragon Magazine (http://digitaldragonmagazine.net). It's a bit of a departure from my normal pieces. I wrote it as a story/poem, in the alliterative style of Beowulf and other epics. A lot of fun to write, not to mention a lot of pain, even for a mere 1500 words--I've never before had to work within such rigid rules (which I admit I did break frequently) for so long. Going through the process gave me new appreciation for what writers who choose the poetic formats as their venue of choice must regularly go through. :) Anyway, think "Beowulf" meets "Alien". While folks are there, I also highly recommend Becky Minor's "Windrider" serial. They'll have to go back to last month to catch the first installment, but it's really good stuff, with dragons in. :)

At Speculative Faith, Rebecca LuElla Miller has written an intriguing piece about what C.S. Lewis really intended the Narnia stories to be. Read "C.S. Lewis and Sub-creation" here.

Read TeenAge Magazine and Free Classic Sci-Fi

At TeenAge Magazine, written by and for teens, editor Bill Snodgrass comments on the visionary nature of science fiction in the article Science Fiction, Science Reality - Treknologies in our midst - On June 3, 1969, the last original episode of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek aired. Yet, reality took many years—decades, in truth—to catch up to his speculative vision of future technology. Many of these far forward thinking innovations—Treknologies—seen in the original series and the sequels that followed still, now thirty-six years later, remain on the cutting edge of society.

Also at TeenAge, check out Charlotte's Sword - new fantasy by JA Howe: The Troll Parade had gone well, it seemed, but what was that sound in the alley? Charlotte wanted to know. Just for protection, she yanked the sword off her mantelpiece -- wow, was it heavy! But that was all right. It wasn't like she'd be using it...until she ran into the poor guy being attacked!

Project Gutenberg offers a large online collection of science fiction classics online for free. Check out their bookshelf here.

Also, authors from Jeremy Robinson's Variance Publishing will be talking about their books on web radio: check out this post for the details.
