News Post 573

This just in from Rick Copple:
Can you believe it? I’ve written enough short stories and flash fictions over the past five years to fill a full novel-length book! And so what did I do? I made a book, naturally.

Introducing Ethereal Worlds, an anthology of 23 space-opera-style science fiction and fantasy stories written and appearing in magazines between 2006 and 2010. Two of the stories have never appeared anywhere before, and one is set to come out in ResAliens around the beginning of 2011.

I was looking around for more news items to fill up a post and then I realised there's quite a lot, ahem, about me. Kinda embarrassing, but I'm glad to have my friends at NAF and Splashdown. Yesterday, Diane Graham pulled a sort of virtual "this is your life" on me at http://newauthors.wordpress.com/2010/12/28/a-little-more-grace/, and today brought more of the same plus a review of one of my novels: http://newauthors.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/anvil-review-faith-awakened-by-grace-bridges/ - Both links have two pages to look at AND you have the chance to win a bundle of Splashdown books all at once, so get over there.

The NAFsters didn't stop there, though. Keven Newsome reviewed Alpha Redemption by P.A. Baines at http://newauthors.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/an-unexpected-review/

News for April 16th, 2010

Johne Cook says: The esteemed writing site, AuthorCulture, has had a lapse in judgment and has asked me to join their team posting periodic items on the writing blog. Their charter is 'inspiring, enlightening, and uniting writers and readers.' Today is my first post, and they asked me to say howdy. So allow myself to, uh...Well, you know.
http://authorculture.blogspot.com/2010/04/introducing-ac-s-newest-partner.html

This from Terri Main:
Dark Side of the Moon, a cozy mystery set in a lunar colony at the end of the 21st century, has been contracted by MuseItUp Publishing. (http://museituppublishing.com/)  According to author Terri Main, the story centers around Carolyn Masters, a history professor and former FBI profiler, who takes a job at Armstrong University on the moon. She is just getting used to 1/6 G when a colleague Juan McAlister, Astromechanics professor and leader in the Lunar Independence Movement, is murders. Together with a retired homicide detective, Carolyn must use her profiling skills to solve the murder, stop a terrorist plot, exorcise her own demons, and maybe find romance at middle age.
"I love science fiction and I love cozies, so it was fun bringing the two of my favorite genres together," said Main. "I am also excited in that Carolyn is an openly Christian character in what is an essentially secular story and this novel was picked up by a secular publisher."

And this from Jill Williamson on To Darkness Fled:
After a long year of writing and writing and writing… the second book in my Blood of Kings trilogy is now up for sale! Thanks so much to everyone who supported me by praying, or reading my first book, or telling people about it. I had no idea when I started writing just how much hard work was involved in all this. Regardless, it has been a fun and rewarding experience.
Or special order the through your local Barnes and Noble.

This is kind of fun. It's a "random" character generator. You go through the charts and throw dice for the choices in each category. Of course, you can also make the choices consciously as well. At any rate it's an interesting way to look at characters.

UPDATE from Terri Main:

Even as Christian fantasy is slowly gaining ground among mainstream Christian publishers, science fiction continues to languish. Many reasons have been proposed. Some suggest that extreme beliefs about the end times discourages speculation about the future. Others point to the antagonism between scientific and religious establishments. For whatever reason, Christian science fiction has yet to catch hold in Christian publishing.

Tuesday February 24 at 7 pm (PST) we will be meeting in Second Life to discuss the place of Christian science fiction in the religious literary scene. The location for the meeting can be found at
